THE STORY
Our friend Dharti started importing spices direct from farmers in India when she could not find the quality of spices she was used to during COVID. The farmers she works with grow their spices regeneratively and organically using techniques that have been passed down for generations. Her turmeric is grown in a region where, inexplicably, the curcumin (the potent molecule in turmeric known for its healing powers) is higher than even those farms in neighboring cities. Dharti and her turmeric are the inspiration for this flavor. I was thinking about flavors that would pair well with turmeric when I was in my garden picking passion fruit. It dawned on me that this would be a really creative, and atypical way to pair turmeric.
WHAT'S IT TASTE LIKE?
This flavor is bright and tart, much like a sour patch Kid. It has a sherbet-like texture, but is definitely still creamy like ice cream. The flavors in this ice cream are layered. You will first taste the punchiness of passionfruit. The lime leaves and the earthiness of the turmeric hit your palate on the back end, and the cheesecake adds texture as well as balance the tartness of the passion fruit.
